This woodland garden features many wonderful trees and plants. Bluebells in abundance in May, foxgloves flower along the sunlit margins of the glades and clumps of large-leaved hostas revel in the rich, moist conditions. It is the ideal situation too for acid-loving rhododendrons and camellias whose shallow root systems can so easily dry out in a hot summer in a more open situation, but here they thrive in the woodland shade, mulched by the natural leaf fall from the deciduous trees.

Rare trees such as a delightful clump of Stewartia pseudocamellia, with lovely mottled bark, Clethra delavayi, and Cercidiphyllum, whose decaying leaves smell of toffee apples.

New gravel paths allow visitors to explore the Woodland and discover hidden glades throughout the year.

The central tree in this photo shows Rhododendron 'Nivale'.
